Safe is a programme of practical activities to develop young people’s skills, self-confidence and safety awareness when using social network sites.

Young people are digital natives and are about to join the world of social networking, if they haven’t already done so. Social media offers many opportunities for them to develop their creativity and communication skills in ways which are relevant to them, in school and at home. As they begin to form a digital footprint, young people need to have an understanding of reputation management and privacy, as what appears online may affect them, not just personally, but in their further education opportunities and careers.

So how can we help young people make positive and informed choices when creating and sharing online?

Complete the Safe programme of easy to deliver, practical activities to develop students’ safety awareness and digital literacy skills. With supporting materials, teacher guides and certificates to download, the programme gives schools a framework to help students develop as active and informed digital citizens.

Activities

There are 7 classroom activities to complete including setting up a safe profile, blogging and connecting online.

All Safe tasks are linked closely to the English Primary Curriculum & Scottish Excellence for Learning. The tasks are supported by teacher resources which include how-to guides, discussion topics and learning outcomes.

Safe can be completed through VLE's or online platforms e.g. Radiowaves.

ekko

Our Safe resources have been designed to compliment our new ekko programme, which is coming soon.

ekko enables your students to develop, run and evaluate that social media campaign.

ekko campaigns are designed as project-based learning experiences, i.e, students in the role of decision makers and leaders of activities, with educators facilitating their learning. Find out more!
